Karatdao verifiable credentials

KaratDAO uses verifiable credentials in Karat Network to connect authorized Web2 account data with Web3 addresses. Connecting an Ethereum wallet alone does not verify an external account. KaratDAO's June 30, 2023 tutorial limited on-chain credential uploads to Claimers with verified accounts.

Does wallet sign-in verify a social account?

A wallet connection alone does not establish that a particular social account has completed verification. Karat associates Ethereum wallet sign-in with data ownership, while its credential function addresses external account data.

Authorization concerns permission to use that data; verification concerns the social account. In KaratDAO's June 2023 upload tutorial, eligible Claimers selected verified accounts before proceeding to gas payment.

Credentials also back Karat ID, which provides an on-chain profile and name service.

Example: A connected wallet without Twitter authorization

In this hypothetical first session, a reader has connected an Ethereum wallet but has not authorized Twitter data for Karat Network. They want to know whether their Twitter account already counts as verified.

For the June 2023 upload flow, the reader needs to authorize the intended Twitter data and complete account verification. The reader can pause before granting data permission, but that leaves the intended credential task unfinished.

The expected result is the intended Twitter account verified and selectable for upload, as in KaratDAO's June 2023 Claimer tutorial. The observed result is only a wallet connection, so verification remains unconfirmed. For the separate upload, that tutorial directed users to inspect their uploaded accounts and account details in their ID.
